Agriculture graduate is right now closing yet another job portal tab, convinced that there is nothing out there for his/her degree, except teaching or a private seed company. Application Timeline

IBPS AFO (Agriculture Field Officer): The 2026 cycle has seen vacancies increase from 190 to 370 posts under the CRP-SPL-XVI drive, one of the biggest agriculture-graduate hiring rounds this year and an increase from last year’s smaller intake. The prelims have 100 questions for 125 marks in 80 minutes and include English, Reasoning, Quant and Professional Knowledge. There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. NABARD Grade A: At the time of writing, the 2026 notification was not out, but past cycles suggest 150-200 vacancies across streams like Agriculture, Finance, IT and Legal, with Agriculture-specific seats generally in single digits. There are Phase 1 prelims, Phase 2 mains, Economic & Social Issues paper and an interview. The basic pay is Rs. 44,500 but with allowances, leased accommodation and NPS contribution the gross pay is above Rs. 1 lakh a month. This is the highest paying entry point on this list. ICAR AIEEA PG & AICE JRF/SRF: Conducted by NTA on 4 July 2026. 120 questions, 480 marks. Computer based test. +4 for each correct answer. Open to graduates in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries or Home Science. On clearing it , PG admissions and JRF / SRF fellowships at ICAR institutes are opened . ASRB NET: Entry to teaching and research positions in agricultural universities and ICAR institutes, through a paper in a specific subject requiring many months of specialized study.

State PSC Agriculture Officer exams: The TSPSC, APPSC, MPSC, and others conduct their own examinations, which take place at different times and have less competition than those conducted centrally because of eligibility criteria based on residency of the state.

FCI Technical Posts: FCI recruits agriculture graduates occasionally to work as Assistant Grade III (Technical) in grain procurement and storage posts.

Selection Process

Preliminary exam: Objective screening on reasoning, general awareness and subject knowledge, with negative marking in most bank and ICAR exams.

Mains: A deeper, often descriptive test on agronomy, soil science, plant pathology and rural economics.

Interview: For officer-level posts like NABARD Grade A or state PSC Agriculture Officer, a personal interview follows the written rounds.

Document verification and medical fitness: The final gate before joining, where original certificates, category proof and physical fitness (where applicable) get checked.

In almost all these exams, age relaxation is applicable, generally 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and extra relaxation for PwBD and in many state PSC exams, for women candidates. Each recruiter has different numbers so don’t assume a standard number, read the relaxation table in each notification.

Reality Check

All exams listed above are not available to everyone equally at this time. Among them, the maximum number of positions is offered by IBPS AFO, and hence it truly becomes the best numerical bet for you. However, NABARD Grade A offers better salaries than IBPS AFO but rarely offers more than 100 seats across the country for the Agriculture field. But ICAR JRF is an ideal choice if research or a Ph.D. is what you need.

Credit Appraisal Specialist jobs for Agriculture Field Officers working in banks can be attained after just a few years. In addition, Assistant Agriculture Officers in a State department will get promoted to become a District Agriculture Officer and then assume policy-making positions after that. ICAR JRF qualified candidates will proceed to pursue their Ph.D.s and become scientists eventually. The Grade ‘A’ officer of NABARD will go up the ranks by becoming a Grade B and then C officer and so forth, which is accompanied with pay increments.
