Selection Process for HPSC HCS 2026

Three stages make up this exam. There's the Preliminary Examination, then the Main Written Examination, and finally the Personality Test.

The Preliminary Examination has two papers. One is General Studies, and the other is the Civil Services Aptitude Test. Each carries 100 marks and runs for two hours. CSAT only needs to be cleared, not scored high on. The pass mark is 33%. Shortlisting depends only on General Studies marks. CSAT marks don't count toward the final score.

A wrong answer costs one-fourth of that question's marks. A candidate also needs to attempt at least 10% of the questions, or they get disqualified. About 12 times the number of open posts move on to the Main Examination.

To move ahead to the Personality Test, a candidate needs 45% marks overall, plus 33% in both English and Hindi. Candidates with benchmark disabilities may get this lowered to 35% in certain cases.

The Personality Test carries 75 marks. HPSC calls in candidates up to three times the number of open posts for this round. The final merit comes from adding the Main Examination score to the Personality Test score, which totals 675 marks. Service or post preference also gets factored in when posts are allotted.
